Frequently Asked Questions

What tax preparation do you offer?

We offer annual preparation for individuals, corporations, non-profits, estates, and partnerships.  We also help with quarterly payroll and sales tax returns.  We also offer amended tax returns for open years- usually the last 3 years- in which mistakes need to be fixed.

Do you offer help with bookkeeping?

Yes.  We use Quickbooks products to work with our clients and help guide them to proper accounting procedures.

How much do you charge for tax preparation?

The amount can vary depending on the complexity of a tax return.  Our prices are very competitive for the level of expertise that we offer.  Some forms, like Earned Income Tax Credits, Education credits, Itemized Deductions, Rentals, and Schedule C businesses require due diligence on our part and expanded tax interviews.

Do you file the taxes electronically?

Yes.  We are an authorized IRS e-file location, and we require signatures and proper identification before we will file electronically.  You will still get paper copies, but everything else is handled electronically unless certain situations don’t allow it.

What is the benefit of hiring a tax professional versus doing it myself?

Our preparers are trained and experienced in tax law, which can be confusing and complicated to the average taxpayer.  In the case of a simple return, you may not need to consult a tax professional, but for even moderately complex returns simple mistakes can be costly. You could be leaving money on the table or be subject to an IRS letter later on. We check all returns for accuracy and are up to date on all relevant tax laws, with a research service to back us up.  We also offer tax planning for future years.

About Us

Are you open during Covid?

We are looking at guidance from the CDC and Madison County.  All visitors are currently required to wear masks in our office.  For the upcoming tax season, we are encouraging clients to work with us virtually or drop off their information.  If things improve, in-person appointments may be possible.

Do you work with clients virtually?

Yes, we have a secure portal that can be used to upload and download documents and can send tax forms via email that are password-protected.

Do I need an appointment to get my taxes done?

For your first time with us, you need to schedule an appointment. We ask that you bring all tax documents that you think might matter, a copy of the previous year’s tax return, and photo id.  Once you are in our system, you have a choice of in-person or drop-off tax service.  Most appointments last 30-60 minutes and we ask that you make them ahead of time to guarantee best service.

Where are you located?

We are on Pontoon Road at the intersection with Johnson Road in Granite City, across from St. Elizabeth’s church.  We have a handicapped-accessible ramp and have been at the same location for 64 years.

How many preparers do you have?

We have three well-trained tax preparers, Dan Connors, Brian Johnson, and Lana Randolph.  All have been doing taxes for over 10 years, are members of the National Association of Tax Professionals, and are trained regularly in new tax laws.

Are you open all year?

Yes, but with reduced hours during the off-season.  We are available all year to help with IRS and Illinois DOR letters, tax planning, and general tax questions, and are glad to help clients beyond tax season.
